Frankly Speaking: Garcia Goes Back-to-Back at Flanders
The Setup
Another picture-perfect Sunday greeted the Weekenders at Flanders Valley, with sunshine, warm temperatures, and not a cloud in the sky. Conditions were ideal, but the Gold-Red combination once again reminded everyone that scoring at Flanders is determined less by yardage and more by surviving its famously undulating greens.
Pin locations tucked near edges and slopes left players searching for a flat putt that rarely existed. Those who managed speed and avoided costly three-putts separated themselves from the pack.
The Winning Round
No one handled the challenge better than Frank Garcia.
The defending Players Champion continued his mastery of Flanders Valley, firing a net 1-under 71 (78-7) to claim his second consecutive victory at the course. A steady front nine followed by a solid closing stretch secured the win and added yet another title to Garcia’s growing resume.

The Chase
Mike Mazzella finished just one shot behind after posting a net even-par 72 (86-14), while Jae Kim rounded out the podium with a net 73. Taka Kitsuta and Joe Kepic completed the top five.
What It Means
Garcia’s victory also carries implications for the postseason. Already exempt into the year-end Players Championship as the defending champion, his win effectively removes another qualifying spot from the field, tightening the race for everyone still chasing a berth.
For the second straight year, when the Weekenders arrive at Flanders Valley, Frank Garcia has proven to be the man everyone is trying to catch.
Spotlight
Slippery Greens, Big Comebacks and CTP Cash
Flanders Valley provided plenty of storylines beyond the winner’s circle.
Mike Mazzella nearly forced a playoff, finishing just one stroke back after a net even-par 72. Jae Kim took third at 73, while Taka Kitsuta and Joe Kepic rounded out the top five.
On the gross side, Frank Garcia and Jae Kim shared low gross honors with rounds of 78 (+6), proving that simply staying near bogey golf was enough to contend on a day when the greens showed no mercy.

From the President
“Another outstanding day for the club.”
It doesn’t get much better than what we had on Sunday. Warm temperatures, blue skies, and excellent conditions made for one of those days that reminds you why we look forward to golf season all winter. Flanders Valley once again proved that you don’t need 7,000 yards to provide a challenge. Those fast, sloping greens and tricky pin positions demanded your full attention from the first putt to the last.
Congratulations to Frank Garcia on an impressive back-to-back victory at Flanders Valley. Winning there once is difficult. Winning there two years in a row is something special. With Frank already exempt as our defending Players Champion, another qualifying spot disappears, making the race for the postseason even tighter.
Congratulations as well to all of our CTP winners and everyone who managed to survive those greens with their sanity intact.
Most importantly, Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads in the Weekenders family. Enjoy the day with family, relax, and settle in for the final round of the U.S. Open.
Looking ahead, we’ll head to Beaver Brook next Sunday. Please make sure to get your registration in by Tuesday night so we can finalize pairings and tee times.
Have a great week, enjoy Father’s Day, and we’ll see everyone at Beaver Brook.
